Have a recent picture of your pet in case your pet becomes missing.

Know who to call:

- Animal Control (police dept.) - 773-7410

- Animal Clinic of Pierre (Pierre/Ft.Pierre pound) 224-1075

The animals that are picked up by the Law Enforcement are brought to and kept at the Animal Clinic of Pierre, AKA the Pierre/Ft. Pierre pound. Animals picked up in Pierre and Hughes County are held for 5 days while Ft. Pierre pets are held only 3 days to give the owners a chance to claim their lost pet. If no one has arrived for this animal in this amount of time then it is up to the Humane Society. The Humane Society takes the animal depending on if there is room available. If there is room at the shelter where the cats are located or if there is an available foster home for a dog. If there isn't any space for this animal, it is unfortunately euthanized by the appropriate city or county government. This is why it is so important to remember to check with the police department and the Animal Clinic of Pierre if you have lost your beloved pet!
